Legendary turn out for the SportPursuit Slateman Triathlon

SUNDAY

The changeable conditions on Sunday didn’t put a dampener on any of the action and the racing was as competitive as ever. In the Classic distance the held all the drama we are used to in the Slateman. Rebecca Hoare was first home with a healthy lead over Jazmin Rogers 5 minutes behind in second place with Hannah Pearson in third.  The Men’s race was a much more closely fought race with ANdrew Hill taking first place 15 seconds ahead of John Thelwell in second place. Tony Cullen took third spot.

The Savage Distance is a 2 day event that comprises of the Sprint on the Saturday and Classic on the Sunday. The women’s race was convincingly won by Rebecca Hoare in a combined time of 04:10:05, a full 20 minutes ahead of Rebecca Lineker in second place. Susana Skylv from the Faro Islands came in third. The Men’s race was a close run thing with the lead changing hands on more than one occasion. Scott Hill took the honours 5 minutes in front of Andrew Scott, who in turn was 5 minutes ahead of Shaun Wood in third.

Tim Lloyd, Director of race organisers Always Aim High Events said: “The Slateman is such a iconic event with a special place in our hearts and the triathlon calendar. We’re proud that we can stage this event year after year in amazing surroundings and with next year being our 10th Anniversary, there’s much more to come!”

“This year we’ve added the Legend distance and it has definitely lived up to its name. We’ve seen some incredible racing and achievements over the whole weekend and we’re so proud that these athletes have chosen our event.”

“We’d like to extend a massive thank you to everyone of our athletes for joining us in addition to their families and friends. We’d also like to thank Gwynedd County Council for supporting the race, as well as our race sponsors for their continued support.  We’d also like to thank the local community in Llanberis  and all of the local spectators that turned out to support the athletes around the course”

“Lastly, we’d like to thank our amazing marshals and volunteers, without whom we the race just wouldn’t be possible”.
